About Alanna
I hold a degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and I also studied saxophone and music education at the University of Georgia (go Dawgs!)
I started teaching private saxophone lessons about 14 years ago and have worked with dozens of students of all ages (even a student in their 80s!) I have taught across North Carolina, Georgia, and now San Diego at my teaching studio downtown.
I teach both adults and school-aged kids on all saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone), and I specialize in teaching strong foundational skills to beginners and intermediate students.
What is Play? Play is primarily an online saxophone lesson platform serving students all over the world; however, I also offer private saxophone lessons both in-person in San Diego, and virtually across the U.S.

Teaching Philosophy & What to Expect in Private Lessons
No matter your age or skill level, music is a great way to explore all those creative nooks and crannies in the brain, develop a healthy outlet, and find a way to take time away from the hustle to literally take a deep breath.

What can you expect from our saxophone lessons together? We'll start by getting to know more about what you enjoy, your goals, and what you want to learn on the saxophone. Then each subsequent lesson will work on building the appropriate skills.
​
Some saxophone students may have specific goals such as auditions, events they want to play for, or more, and in those cases our saxophone lessons will be very goal-oriented, while still tailoring to what the student enjoys most about playing.

Although I teach all levels, I specialize in teaching beginner and intermediate saxophone students, helping them to excel with strong foundational skills.

Parking and Transportation
A paid parking garage across the street tends to be the most convenient option and will cost about $10. There is also 1-hour metered street parking with spots typically available within 3 blocks. Public transit is also readily available in this area.
